Brivis, Bonaire, Braemar & Vulcan fault codes explained

One page for the codes homeowners actually see on Brivis, Bonaire, Braemar and Vulcan systems across the Bellarine and Geelong. Find your code, read what it means, try the safe check — and if it comes back, we'll tell you over the phone roughly what the repair involves before we come out.

Fault code lookup table

BrandCodeWhat it meansWhat to do
BonaireNavigator flashing / no commsThe wall controller has lost communication with the unit on the roof.Power the system off at the isolation switch for 30 seconds. If comms don't return, it's usually the data cable, a rodent-damaged run, or the controller itself.
BonairePump / water faultPads aren't getting wet — pump failure, stuck float, or blocked distributor.Check the water supply tap to the cooler is on. If it is, the pump or float needs replacing — a standard pre-season repair.
BonaireDrain / valve faultThe drain valve or bleed-off isn't operating, so water sits in the base.Book a service. Standing water corrodes the base and shortens the unit's life.
BrivisLockout (status light flashing)The heater attempted ignition and failed the set number of times, then locked out.Reset once at the isolation switch. If it locks out again, stop — repeated ignition attempts on a faulty unit are not something to keep forcing.
BrivisOverheat / high-limit tripAirflow is restricted, so the heat exchanger is running too hot.Clean or replace the return-air filter. If it trips again, the ductwork is likely crushed or disconnected in the roof space.
BrivisController display blankNo power to the controller, or a controller/wiring failure.Check the isolation switch near the unit and the breaker in the meter box before calling.
BraemarIgnition failureNo flame detected — igniter, flame sensor, gas valve or gas supply.Confirm other gas appliances work. If they do, the fault is inside the heater and it's licensed work.
BraemarFan / air pressure faultThe combustion fan or pressure switch isn't confirming airflow.Often a blocked flue, a bird nest or a failing fan. Book an inspection — don't keep resetting it.
BraemarSensor faultA temperature sensor is reading out of range or open-circuit.Usually a cheap part and a single visit once diagnosed.
Vulcan / RinnaiRepeated lockoutIgnition or flame-sensing failure on an older unit.Have the heat exchanger inspected and carbon monoxide tested. Older Vulcan units are the ones we most often recommend replacing.

The safe reset, step by step

  1. 1Turn the system off at the wall controller and wait two minutes.
  2. 2Switch the unit's isolation switch or circuit breaker off for 30 seconds, then back on. This clears most lockouts.
  3. 3Set the controller to heat (or cool), push the target well past room temperature and listen for the fan and ignition sequence.
  4. 4If the same code returns, stop and book a technician rather than resetting repeatedly.

About Brivis, Bonaire, Braemar & Vulcan fault codes

Code numbering differs between models and controller generations, so a list you found for a different model can send you down the wrong path. Photograph the display and read us the code — we'll tell you whether it's a sensor, an ignition fault or a board failure, and roughly what the repair costs.

Anything involving gas, refrigerant or the inside of the unit is licensed work. If you smell gas, shut the gas off at the meter and call the gas emergency line first.

If the code comes back after one reset, book a repair. Gas heaters must be carbon monoxide tested by a licensed technician — a cracked heat exchanger gives almost no warning.
