The safe reset, step by step
- 1Turn the unit off at the controller and back on after a minute.
- 2Run it in cool mode (not fan-only) and give the pads five minutes to wet through before judging the air temperature.
- 3Check the water supply tap to the roof unit is fully open — it often gets closed for winter and forgotten.
About Bonaire fault codes
Bonaire controllers display faults as a code or a flashing indicator, and the numbering differs across model ranges. Send us a photo of the display along with the model number from the roof unit and we'll tell you what it points to.
Symptom by symptom
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Air moves but isn't cool | Pads not wetting — closed tap, failed pump, blocked distributor or dry pads | Fan-only mode will feel warm and is normal. If cool mode is also warm after five minutes, the water side needs looking at. |
| Water dripping from the ceiling or vents | Overflowing tray, failed float valve, blocked drain or roof flashing leak | Turn it off and stop the water supply. Continued running spreads the damage. |
| Musty or swampy smell | Old pads, stagnant water and biofilm in the tray | This is a clean and pad replacement job — a pre-season service fixes it. |
| Noisy or rattling roof unit | Worn bearings, loose fan or a failing motor mount | Switch it off. Running a failing motor usually turns a repair into a replacement. |
| Cooler won't turn on at all | Power, controller or wiring fault | Check the isolation switch and breaker, then book a diagnosis. |
Anything involving gas, refrigerant or the inside of the unit is licensed work. If you smell gas, shut the gas off at the meter and call the gas emergency line first.
We service Bonaire, Braemar and Celair evaporative coolers, replace pads and pumps, and do winter shutdowns and covers.
